Betsy Richards is the director of personal-brand strategy at Kaplan University. For 2010 college graduates, Richards stresses flexibility saying many will have to have to make concessions to get their first job.
Richards recommends students look throughout the country for the best position to start their career. She also recommends students think 'outside the box' and look at jobs that could hone skills, which might sometimes be outside of a graduate's career field.
Richards says students should not hesitate to ask for professionals' help when charting their career path. She says phonecalls and personal interaction are key when networking.
When on the computer, Richards recommends using Linked In to network with professional in one's field. She says websites like Simply Hired and the Bureau of Labor Statistics will give you some insight about where your industry is headed.
