Cathy Curtis runs Curtis Financial Planning in Oakland, CA. She says when you lose your job, it's critical that you come up with a new budget to deal with the change in your income. While your fixed expenses might not change, Curtis says you might find out you're overspending in discretionary areas. In many cases, understanding where your money goes will help you in the present, AND in the future!
